The Journey So Far
Aug 20, 2026
Coaches for the Future was developed by a small team of coaches who share a passion for supporting children and young riders through coaching. The vision was to support and mentor young coaches in their coaching journey through education, qualifications and practice. We felt this was valuable due to the decline in riding schools and training centres over the years, resulting in more freelance coaches that are potentially less supported. Our aim was to establish a comprehensive programme covering all aspects of modern coaching and focusing on rider psychology, lifestyle, equine welfare, technique, teamwork and parent inclusion.
The emotional and physical wellbeing of the horse will always be at the centre of all training. The vision is to combine this with rider and coach wellbeing to enhance the future of equestrian sport.
We launched Coaches for the Future at a regional training day earlier in the year at Millfield School Equestrian, followed with a series of themed webinars. We didn’t anticipate the diversity of coaches that this would attract, and we were inspired by the coaching community that was being developed. It was always our intention to build a safe and inclusive space for sharing experiences and supporting a network of coaches. It has been so inspiring to have so many coaches connect with us, not only from the UK but from around the world.
We were initially looking at developing a membership this year, but it felt more intuitive to let Coaches for the Future naturally evolve. As a team we wanted to take time to develop, connect and talk with coaches and make sure we were giving the support that was needed. We are constantly evolving by listening to coaches and continue to be curious about how we can give the best support.
We will always remain focused on supporting coaches who work with children and young riders in the UK and around the world. We will remain focused on working collaboratively and supporting governing bodies with training and education to enhance coaching.
We are delighted that we have such a varied community of coaches but continue to be passionate about supporting young coaches. We have grown our coaching team to include two younger coaches who offer a huge amount of knowledge and dedication to support other young coaches. The future looks exciting with sponsorship and the development of bursaries to help us to support young equestrian coaches.
Looking ahead we are developing regional training days, webinars with guest speakers and other exciting collaborative ventures.
The future of equestrian coaching is evolving, and we are loving the journey with the growing community of Coaches for the Future.
